I absolutely love engagement sessions - they are the perfect opportunity for me to hang out and get to know each of my couples before the wedding day! And, I couldn't have been more thrilled to spend a recent Saturday afternoon eating at Jake's Ice Cream and exploring Krog Street Market with Casey, Wesley and sweet Sofia. These three kept me laughing the entire shoot, and I loved capturing all the silly faces (I'm looking at you, Wesley!) and sweet giggles along the way! In our exploring, we also discovered a gorgeously colorful "We love ATL" wall & saw just a taste of the moves that first brought Casey & Wesley together. Read more of their story below & don't forget to leave these cuties some love in the comments!
Tell me the story of how you two met - "We met at a wedding. The bride was a coworker of Casey's. The Groom was the younger brother of Wesley's best friend. Casey spent most of the night lurking in the background staring at me (Wesley) while I danced. This isn't that surprising because I am a really good dancer. So she isn't the first person to be fascinated by my moves. (Now Casey is telling the story) At the end of the night, a group of people from the wedding decided to go out in Buckhead. Wesley and his friend Haaris rode in my car with my friend Lauren, and we ended up having a really great time. However, I don't think either of us thought that we would see each other again, after that night. About 3 weeks later, both Wesley and I got separate text from the bride, Jess, asking us how we felt about the other. I think for both of us, she made it seem as if the other person was interested, though neither of us asked her to contact the other. Wesley was given my number, but didn't initially call me. He thought he should wait, but literally 2 hours later Jess was texting him asking if he'd contacted me. She insisted that he do it immediately, so he text me. That was Tuesday September 4, 2012. We went on our first date on Friday September 7, 2012 and have been together ever since."
Wesley, what is your favorite thing about Casey - "She let's me be me. I can be a headache sometimes - up or down or singing my head off - but she let's me be myself without trying to change me. She also has an undying love for my daughter."
Casey, what is it about Wesley that you love the most? - "Wesley and I both agree that it was his dance moves that brought us together, but I quickly learned that there was so much more to love. He has a great smile, one that brightens any room and I love his laugh. His love and support for me is unwavering and when challenges arise both personally and professionally he is always there to listen. He never judges and is always willing to give a second chance. He loves his daughter so deeply and would do anything for her. He's an excellent father and honestly, that is one of his most attractive qualities. He is patient and kind; patient with me, patient with Sofia and patient with our fur kids. He is a wealth of knowledge and he has taught me so much over our short 4+ years together. There is always music on in our house which I love, although if you ask him I also like the quiet, and he has exposed me to so many artists that we now enjoy together. He entertains all of the many "activities" that I like to do, hiking, dog parking and concert going and he does it all without complaint. He does a lot without the need, or expectation of acknowledgement. His only request is football in the Fall, soccer when, well, whenever soccer is on and very few of those "activities" that I mentioned on Sunday's, which I've also learned to love. He likes food and naps like I do and he has taught me to take time to enjoy both more. Every day is different, but we go through every day together and for that I love him most...that and his love of Justin Timberlake."
About the Proposal - "We flew to Baltimore for Casey's birthday. Well, and sort of for work. Casey works from home, here in Atlanta, but she works remote for Baltimore. She works for Hilton, so we always have a nice place to stay when we go. In addition, I am a big Steelers fan, and we got tickets to the Steelers/Ravens game. The day after the game was her birthday. She actually had to work that day, so I stayed in our hotel room. I'd already worked out with her boss that I would meet them for lunch, after telling Casey numerous times that I couldn't come to lunch with them because I had work to do on a trial that I had coming up. Little did she know, I was really getting ready to surprise her at lunch and propose to her. Around 12:15 I got the text from her boss telling me that they were on their way to the restaurant. I hopped in the uber over, on a glorious Monday afternoon, and arrived at the Four Seasons, where they were having a celebratory birthday lunch for Casey. I texted her boss to let him know I was there. He told her that he and another co-worker needed to step outside to take care of an emergency at work. As they walked out, I walked in to see Casey in the back corner of the restaurant with her back to me. I came around the corner into her view, and she freaked out (actually she didn't. she seemed to be in shock), she asked what I was doing there, and I said I was there to propose to her. I got down on a knee, and asked if she would marry me. She said yes, and then she cried, and I giggled, and everyone around us realized what was going on. So it was a pretty cool moment. We drank some champagne and celebrated the rest of the day."
Thank you so much, Casey & Wesley, for sharing your story! Looking forward to capturing your wedding (and witnessing those famous moves) in November! :)
