Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston has long held a special place in my heart. For one thing, it's arguably the most gorgeous spot in my home state of South Carolina, and it also happens to be the perfect place to enjoy so many of my favorite things - great food, abundant sunshine and the Ocean. I was thrilled to have our trip featured in Design Aglow's Travel with Photographers Series, so head on over there to read the guide I put together with my Charleston recommendations! I am so excited to share more images from our trip here today!

Last year around this time, my husband, his parents and I planned an early spring get-away to Charleston over a long weekend. I loved helping find the perfect little Airbnb apartment for the four of us and researching places to eat, of course :-) After road tripping from the Atlanta area, we arrived mid-afternoon - just in time to go to Bowens Island for an early dinner (and to watch the sunset over the inlets surrounding the restaurant). We enjoyed amazing seafood, and I wandered around capturing the sun on the water! It was a magical way to kick off the trip!

Loved these sweet little birdies hanging out along the dock, and check out that amazing sunset! I just love the details in the sky - captured on film, of course!

Our first morning of the trip, Tanner & I headed over to Hominy Grill for a delicious brunch! I absolutely loved the Huevos Rancheros!

After brunch, we walked the surrounding streets together. I loved capturing the little details of the city and hanging out with this handsome man!

Oh my goodness, y'all - Taco Boy was an amazing discovery! Tanner & I still crave the tacos from this joint! Everything from more traditional tacos to Kimchi Beef and Fried Chicken tacos, this place is amazing!

A trip to Charleston would not be complete without visiting the Ocean. It didn't matter that the weather was cloudy & cold - I still loved walking along the surf as we explored Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms!

I loved this old bridge too - the color was the perfect contrast to the tossing waves.

Come back next week for highlights from the rest of our time in Charleston! Happy Tuesday!

Winter Wedding Inspiration at the Brickyard in Marietta

Merry Christmas, friends! I love this time of year - it's a celebration of another year of life, and it also means more quality time with family and friends! I've been reflecting on this past year as we head into 2017, and one of the things I'm most thankful for in this life is community - both the community I've found in this industry and in my day to day life. When I first had the idea of doing a styled shoot, I knew I wanted it to reflect this idea of community. Styled shoots for me are not just an excuse to play & create "something pretty" - it's about celebrating and highlighting some of the things that matter most to me! It's a celebration of the amazing people I've come to love in the wedding world from my dear friend Jenna who I've seen truly blossom as a floral designer & small business owner to fellow Gather workshop alums Michelle & Alex who also really elevated this shoot with their talent in design/planning and paper, respectively! I'm so thankful for everyone who came together to make the dream of this shoot a reality, and I'm thrilled that it was recently featured over on the Trendy Bride

In addition to this showing the strength of our community of talent, I loved incorporating an actual dinner party into the shoot! While I love the simplicity of showcasing an elegantly designed table, it was important to me that we also inject life into the tablescape! Some of my favorite images from this shoot are of my sweet friends sharing glasses of wine and a warm meal around at the table! I hope that in addition to inspiring weddings that it may give you some ideas for upcoming holiday parties as well! I hope you enjoy seeing some of my favorite captures! Happy Holidays!

I absolutely adore this gorgeous invitation suite by Alex Estes of Prairie Letter Shop! The invitation was the perfect blend of romantic hand-lettering and watercolor blooms while the rich red envelopes have vintage charm with their white hand-lettered addresses and vintage stamps!

Loved working with our cute models Kaila & Alex (a real couple!). This is one of my favorites of their sweet interaction together! I loved that our styled shoot was infused with real emotion!

Jenna of Gold & Bloom created this beautiful arrangement for the cake table that cascaded down to brush the floor! Brass candle holders with flickering candles highlighted the gorgeous chocolate cake (with buttercream icing) that Miss Mamie's Cupcakes baked and topped with sugared cranberries!

In addition to the deep green garland that ran down the center of the table, I love the pops of red and beautiful texture found in this gorgeous table arrangement!

In addition to the delicious chocolate cake, Mamie also made little tarts with sugared cranberries that graced each plate right before dinner. Yum!

I loved the modern Groom's look we achieved in this suit and skinny tie from The Black Tux and the way his boutonniere complemented the green, cream and gold found on the gorgeous table!

I just love the pops of red throughout this shoot - from the berry red lipstick on Kaila to the sugared cranberries on the cake & tarts!

I'm just obsessed with this gorgeous Cristiano Lucci gown from White Magnolia Bridal! The gorgeous lace on lace detailing and the beaded illusion neckline were stunning!

I loved having a table full of friends that's so representative of a real wedding celebration!

Aren't Alex & Kaila adorable? I just love this romantic portrait of the cute pair! And, doesn't the cake slice look delectable?! Yum!!

Merry Christmas, friends! I hope you feel all the Joy this time of year brings!

Piedmont Driving Club Wedding - Katie & Chris

Katie & Chris’ day was full of classic elegance. From our first conversation, I knew their day would be one for the books as Katie described the incredible relationship she has with her family & the ways she planned to incorporate that tradition into her day. I was especially thrilled when Southerly Grace Magazine selected this wedding for feature on their blog this week! I have to say, the hardest part has been waiting to share this day until the feature came out! It was such a gorgeous wedding!

Katie and Chris incorporated family and tradition into multiple facets of their wedding (which I just love!). From having their ceremony in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where Katie and her family attended while she was growing up, to sharing the sipping cup inscribed with all the names of family who have also used it at their weddings throughout the years, the attention to family details confirmed the importance family plays in Chris and Katie’s relationship! But this detail is my favorite - Katie wore the veil that her grandmother passed on to her that now 3 generations have all used in their weddings! And, this veil has a really cool story - Katie’s grandmother and some girlfriends were traveling in Belgium during their college years when one of the girls convinced the rest of the group to go veil shopping with her. When the girls arrived in the shop (and most likely saw the gorgeous merchandise), they all thought they might as well purchase their wedding veils as well! And, this was all before those lovely ladies were even engaged! Now that gorgeous Belgian lace veil has been worn not only by Katie’s grandmother but also by her mother & now Katie! How amazing is that?!

Katie & Chris - Thank you so much for the privilege of capturing your beautiful day! I love the way you care for each other and extend kindness to friends, family and everyone you meet! Chris, I love the way you make Katie smile (and bring such a fun energy to those around you) and Katie, your joy was evident from the beginning of the day on. I love your heart for others and the way you've incorporated that love into what you do on a daily basis! Thank you for the honor of capturing this season of your lives together! Much love and appreciation - Carrie Joy

I just love all the elegant details around the Piedmont Driving Club - doesn't this remind you of Europe?

I just love this photo of Katie moments after putting on her grandmother's gorgeous Belgian lace veil! Katie, you are stunning!

I just love First Looks! Katie, the smile on your face just says it all! :)

Everyone looked stunning in these gorgeous gowns from Formally Yours

Doesn't the wedding party look lovely in this soft color scheme?!

I just adore the gorgeous ballroom at Piedmont Driving Club!

I love the sweet moment between Katie and her Dad during the Father-Daughter dance!

I just love the movement in this fun dancing shot! What a party!

Congratulations, Katie & Chris! Thank you so much for the privilege of capturing your gorgeous day!

Thank you to Melissa Robbins who helped capture this day with me & to the following vendors who helped make this day beautiful!
